Efabless and IC-Link offer a rapid and low-cost route to customized ICs

There are many reasons for equipping your product with a customized IC (ASIC) instead of an FPGA: the availability of rich analog and digital mixed-signal design IP, higher speeds, lower power consumption, ...

If many product designers still shy away from using an ASIC, it’s mainly because of the challenges that come with custom development – in particular regarding design and production. Imec and Efabless – a leading open innovation platform for IC design – share the vision that the traditional barriers for ASIC creation need to be removed.

Thanks to our partnership, customers get a low-cost, easy and quick route to the fabrication of their ASIC:

• They choose a design template that is automatically configured according to their requirements – which demands a minimum of expertise.
• They rely on IC-Link’s supply chain for fabrication assembly and testing.

At the start of the collaboration, the platform supports XH018 technology from X-FAB, but more technologies and foundries will be added in the coming years.
