EUTELSAT KONNECT helps to bridge the global digital divide
Imec.IC-link partner launched an all-electric communication satellite.
High-speed internet is quickly becoming the lifeblood of our economies and personal relationships. Yet fast and reliable connections are far from universally guaranteed. Especially for people living in rural or remote areas.
Geostationary satellites – equipped with radiation-hardened technology – can provide broadband services to both companies and individuals around the globe. By filling the gaps left by cabled networks, they help to close the digital divide.
In 2020, such a telecommunication satellite, built by imec.IC-link’s partner Thales Alenia Space, was successfully launched. Since then, the all-electric EUTELSAT KONNECT provides large-scale coverage of high-speed internet for customers in Africa and Europe.
