Design contest for first-time users of imec SiN Photonics technology (BioPIX300)

Imec and EUROPRACTICE are launching a design contest for first-time users of imec Silicon Nitride Photonics technology.

SiN Photonics technology

Very low propagation loss, broad transparency range and CMOS compatibility have positioned Silicon Nitride (SiN) as a lucrative material for integrated photonics. SiN photonics applications are wide, ranging from bio-photonics to communication, LiDAR to quantum photonics and much more.

BioPIX300, imec’s SiN Photonics platform with 300nm thick SiN layer, offers state of the art technology options for next generation innovations. The platform is accessible through multi-project-wafer (MPW) fabrication runs for prototyping.

By providing free and open access to this technology for academic and research institutes worldwide, our goal is to stimulate novel designs and applications that will take full advantage of the capabilities of this emerging technology.

About the contest

The winner will get a free prototype fabrication (excluding packaging) of one standard (5.3mm x 4.8mm) block size design on imec BioPIX300 MPW shuttle run in November 2021 – representing a value of 23,000 €.

Who can apply?

Researchers from academic institutions and research institutes that have never prototyped in the imec BioPIX technology before.

Download and fill in the two-page application template. You can submit it via email to sinmpw@imec-int.com

Multiple applications can be submitted, but a maximum of one design per university can be approved.

When are the deadlines?

Submission of proposals is open until September 27th, 2021.

Proposals will be evaluated by an independent committee and the winners will be informed before October 11th, 2021.

Successful designs will be included for fabrication in the SiN Photonics BioPIX300 MPW run scheduled for November 2021.

  • Application novelty of the SiN Photonics IC design
  • Proposed design methodology
  • Clarity of application and credibility of case
  • How this will lead to further research using design and fabrication by your institute
